Mr Brok MEP sits at the heart of the European Parliament’s Brexit activity, as one of six MEPs on the European Parliament’s Brexit Steering Group. Under the leadership of Guy Verhofstadt (the Parliament’s Brexit Coordinator), this Steering Group coordinates and prepares the Parliament's deliberations, considerations and resolutions on the UK's withdrawal from the EU. The European Parliament has been outspoken from the outset of the Brexit negotiations, with clearly articulated Brexit ‘red lines’, particularly in relation to citizens’ rights and the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Although it has no formal role in the negotiations themselves, it must approve the final Withdrawal Agreement. As such, it is crucial that negotiators listen to and engage with this institution throughout the Brexit process.
