I'm pretty surprised that most mechanical Lego Technic Steppers I've seen on YouTube are that big, While their are perfectly well engineered !
After failing many prototypes and spending hours on creating a super compact Lego Technic Stepper Mechanism, I left it aside for months :O
I just came back to it a few days ago and BANG, in five minutes find the solution ! I am so glad to provide a such compact design ;)
You should consider that the stepper itself works awesome even if you might have to help it a bit get back into position sometimes.
The stepper is not very strong though, so you wouldn't want to apply much torque to the output unless it will slip.
Besides that, It is perfectly functional for small creations and light mechanics ! That was the aim, making it small for small Lego Technic Builds !
For those who don't know how to use this mechanism :
Basically designed for shifting speeds in sequential Lego gearboxes. and any other shifting systems you'd want to design.
I personally managed to use it in a clock :O
The shifter can be easily geared to change the number of steps per turn.
Use a 16 to 24 gear ratio to output 60° steps.

Enjoy, Fellow Lego Technic Masters ;)
