It may have mad much more sense to do a contractual agreement with a mega carrier back then, but now, it is not worth, given the conditions of the trucking industry. OTR trucking is at its worse; with low pay, low rates, and shortages in freight. In addition, the new generation of CDL truckers now have an automatic restriction on their license. Although it is not a big deal to a larger company, eventually a lot of truckers seek local work. It often becomes a barrier for truckers to find local jobs due to the automatic restriction. Usually, they would have to re-take their CDL test in a manual truck to get the restriction lifted, a process that costs hundreds of dollars. Sometimes, truckers may be unhappy with their company, and break their contract early. This puts them on the hook for thousands of dollars.
