Turkish and Russian troops are expected to start co-ordinated patrols in Syria's Idlib province on Friday.

The announcement was made by Turkey's Defence Minister, Hulusi Akar, and follows a marked increase in attacks by the Syrian regime on the country's last rebel-held area. Turkey says it hopes these joint patrols will act as a deterrent and reduce regional tensions.
