In this episode we survey Massachusetts' seven state songs -- and present a rendition of one not heard in decades -- with the help of award-winning vocal ensemble, The Eight Tracks.

And, sure, the tunes range from celebratory to catchy, and encompass genres as distinct as folk and polka. But they also lack diversity — and fall short of reflecting the immense range of homegrown musical talent the Bay State has to offer.

And at a time when other state emblems — including the motto, seal and flag — are being re-examined, we talk with ethnomusicologist Dr. Emmett G. Price III about whether its time for the Bay State to reimagine its musical approach.
