On March 7-8, 2017, Justice Canada hosted a knowledge exchange focused on the criminal justice system’s responses to sexual assault against adults. The day’s objective was to better understand why, despite Canada’s robust criminal laws related to sexual assault, rates of reporting, prosecution, and conviction remain low. This panel discussed current issues in sentencing and corrections for offenders found guilty of sexual assault, including issues related to the Sex Offender Information Registration Act, the Gladue principles, victim impact statements and community impact statements, therapeutic models and promising practices.
