On Saturday 8th September, it rained really heavily for a few hours causing a build up of standing water on the main runway (23R/05L) at MAN/EGCC. This meant that they had to use the second runway, 23L/05R for both takeoffs and landings. Due to unique way the runway is laid out, there isn't a taxiway the full length of the runway meaning that departing aircraft from 05R have to back taxi down the runway and use the turn around loop at the end. As this is an inefficient way of regulating inbound and outbound traffic, departures from 05R are extremely rare.
