Allies of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn (left) have warned the party could become crushed between UKIP and the resurgent Liberal Democrats. Labour suffered a dismal night at the Richmond Park by-election, where Lib Dem Sarah Olney came out on top (pictured), including the humiliating loss of its deposit for the first time in a London seat for more than a century. Many supporters defected to the Lib Dems, provoking a fresh bout of soul searching in the divided party. Ex-frontbencher Chuka Umunna (right) yesterday said there were now ‘no safe Labour seats’.
