A walk round the polytunnel on 20th August 2013
This year we are doing a lot more companion planting in a big way, in the polytunnel and out in the forest garden. Using things from the forest garden as sturdy supports for growing crops makes sense, the hazel sticks for peas is not a new idea of course but our sturdy willow and hazel squash supports look strangely beautiful to me. Those hazel sticks were covered with catkins in the early summer, it would be a real bonus if they have made some roots so we can plant them out in the late autumn. Also we have made sure to avoid F1 hybrids and plant single varieties so we can save seed..... although check out our accidental hybrid pumpkins - not! wonder what they will taste like?
