This time, we stumbled upon a truly unique place—a castle as old as time itself, passed down through generations of a family that lived here for centuries.
When you think of French castles, you might picture grandeur and luxury, but this castle is different. The family were farmers, and the inside feels more like a simple, lived-in home. It’s a castle unlike any we’ve seen before. As we explored, we uncovered a history that’s as tragic as it is captivating.
Agnes, the last of her family to live here, stayed in this castle until 2012, when she passed away at 98. Her final years were spent alone in its vast, echoing halls, surrounded by memories. But beneath what might seem like a peaceful life lies a shadow that has never fully lifted.
Many years ago, Agnes and her husband René faced a devastating loss. Their son, Sebastian, was just 11 years old when his life was tragically cut short. On what should have been a routine walk to school, a car struck him, and despite their best efforts, he didn’t survive. This heartbreak left deep scars on Agnes and René—scars that time could never fully heal.
They had another son and poured all their love and hopes into him. But the question remains: why did he never return to care for the place that held so much of their family’s history and heartache?
