5 Really simple things you can do in your garden to help out wildlife in Winter.
1) Feed the birds : Use a selection of feed so more species of birds can eat. Especially fat balls for winter calories.
2) Log pile lodge : Build a simple pile of logs, twigs, sticks and leaves. Or what ever organic material you can find.
3) Bug Hotels : Not just for solitary bees, but for everything else. Including, slugs, snails, earwigs if positioned closer to the ground.
4) Nesting boxes/Bird houses : As spring approaches, birds will be on the lookout for nesting locations. Use a selection of open and holed bird boxes to assist a wider variety of nesting birds.
5)Don't cut back or tidy too much : Dead stems and leaf matter on the ground can provide important cover for wildlife and protect them from the cold. Also this can act as a layer of insulation to even protect the plants.
