Jamaica's Luminous Lagoon is home to a unique and rare species of dinoflagellate phosphorescent microbes that can only survive in the warm fresh waters where the Martha Brae River meets the salty seawater. The downstream current of the river activates the microbes, causing them to emit a mesmerizing neon-green light, resembling that of light sticks.
