In this module, we think about the impact of postmodernism on the way we think about and write history, focusing in particular on: (i) the work of Michel Foucault; (ii) the work of Jacques Derrida; (iii) the work of Hayden White; (iv) the response of historians to the challenges posed by postmodernism; (v) the extent to which the questions raised by postmodernism have always formed part of historians’ reflections on their craft.
