An iconic cymbal from the 80s and 90s, the Z Custom line of crashes was used heavily in the hard rock and metal genres. Zildjian eventually discontinued this, re-imagining it as the Z3 line, and eventually as the A Heavy crash, constantly making changes.
Early this year, Zildjian reintroduced the Z Custom (and discontinued the A Heavy along with it). However, this is not the same Z Custom you remember from the decades before.
Let's see how this cymbal evolved over time and how it differs from its earlier models.
We'll also hear a ton of sound samples comparing a 17 Z Custom crash against a 17 A Heavy crash so you can hear which you may prefer.
