Located next to the more famous peak of the Matterhorn, a vertical marvel, the Klein Matterhorn is something you should visit while in Zermatt. Then we walk part-way down the lower level through the cute hamlet of Zmutt, stopping for lunch on our way back down to Zermatt town.
Klein Matterhorn is so high at 3883 meters that they can ski in the summer time, as you'll see there's lots of snow and quite a few skiers and snowboarders up there.
We make it all the way up to the top and here to the engineers have been busy at work building tunnels and pathways and snack shops and elevators will take care of us.
So it's really no strain at all -- anybody can do this, and we take a little walk on the snowpack because there's a tunnel off in the distance that will take us inside the glacier.
Three stages of cable cars get you back down into Zermatt, but we're not going to ride the cable car all the way down because we've chosen to opt out and take a hike, one of the highlights of our Swiss tour.
