The Blazin' Quartet was created at the beginning of 2008 with the idea of creating a new sound based on jazz, Balkan traditional rhythm and melodies and the use of electronics. Already in April 2008 the band has won the Holland Jazz&Pop Casino Award and in July of the same year has won the prestigious Dutch Jazz Competition Best Group prize with it's bass player winning the Best Solioist award on the same competition.
The Blazin' Quartet is aiming to bring the strength of a 'band' back into jazz and the freedom to mix in whatever sounds good with no stylistic limitation.
The members of the band are based in Amsterdam and have studied in The Netherlands, are active in the Dutch music scene and with the Blazin' Quartet they are finding the way to express their voice.
The Blazin' Quartet is:
Alex Simu - T.Sax, Clarinet -- Romania
Michael Rorby -- Trombone -- Sweden
Mihail Ivanov -- Bass -- Bulgaria
Srdjan Ivanovic -- Drums -- Bosnia
