A port of Intellivision's Night Stalker game for the Atari 2600, released as DARK CAVERN by Mattel's M Network in 1982.
LaunchBox's database says: "It's a battle for survival in an underground cavern! You have five men. They enter the cavern one at a time through the center trap door. Once inside, blobs, spiders and robots begin to enter the left and right doors. (Neither the creatures nor the man can exit through these doors.)
Direct your man down the tunnels. Pick up ammunition as you go. Keep clear of the creatures ... avoid robot fire. Shoot to destroy! Get hit by a robot's bullet ... action stops.
Now bring out your next man ... get them before they get you !!!"
Apple II, IBM PC, and Mattel Aquarius versions were published in 1983.
I seem to remember playing this on the Intellivision, but I can't remember if it was in Ohio or South Carolina. I found the Atari 2600 version rather simplistic when I recorded this coldplay; as I was preparing this post I found the PDF manual online and read it. Apparently you can score an extra man if you shoot a 2-headed robot when they are yellow (you can have a maximum of 9 men in reserve at any time); you're also limited to a maximum of 99 bullets at a time.
As far as scoring goes, you get zero points for shooting a spider or blob (touching the spider temporarily paralyzes you, touching a blob allows them to steal bullets from you -- the longer the touch, the more ammo you lose!). Robots score as follows: Purple, 1000 points; Red, 2000 points; Green, 3000 points; and finally Yellow, 5000 points plus another man.
Did you ever play DARK CAVERN or Night Stalker?
