Saket Gokhale, the national spokesperson for the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was detained by the Gujarat Police over a tweet regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Morbi following the bridge collapse that killed 135 people there in October. Gokhale is accused of sharing what appeared to be a news item about a response under the Right to Information Act (RTI) that claimed $30 million had been spent on the visit, according to the complaint of an Ahmedabad resident in the case. On December 1, the Press Information Bureau fact-checked the assertion and deemed it false. "No such response to an RTI has been provided." Saket Gokhale was picked up from Udaipur and was brought to Ahmedabad for further investigation.
