Don't be a Dinosaur
Robot tech is constantly evolving. As an old guy who remembers 64k memory limits, I'm acutely aware that you must stay current to remain competitive. My response is to try new tech when it becomes available.
ARC Specialties and Abagy Robotics Systems are collaborating. We have leveraged advances in 3D vision technology to solve several problems in robotics: small batch sizes, large parts with high dimensional variability, and irregular part positioning.
In the video, you see John Martin use the system to determine the position of a randomly placed part & match it to a 3D CAD model. He selects the features to be welded and automatically generates the touch work and part welding program. John then shifts the part so the system must reorient itself. Before welding, we use touch work for final confirmation & correction of the part shape, position, plus torch and robot TCP, all of which must be accurate to make sound welds.
We demoed this for Charlie Ribardo and we agreed this is a game-changer for robotic welding, painting & sanding.
Thanks to Gary Kowalski & FANUC America Corporation, Alexander Domanitsky with Abagy Robotics Systems, and Howard Fisher with American Weldquip. The cell is running at ARC for testing.
