Hi, this is Michelle. We continue to study the Sonatina op. 36, no. 2, the 3rd movement by Muzio Clementi. This movement is written in G major, the same as the first movement. The form is in ABA codetta, rondo form. The codetta starts in bar 104 to the end.
The tempo is allegro, which means fast and lively. The time is in 3/8 which means an 8th note receives 1 count and 3 counts per measure. The texture of this movement is homophonic, which means melody with accompaniment. Therefore, the right hand’s melody must be played louder than the left’s accompaniment.
Section A is from bar 1 to 40, B from bar 41 to 74, section A is back in bar 75, and there is a codetta at the end of the music. The fermata in bar 74 means to rest more than 3 beats. Clementi used this “fz” signs quite frequently. It is the abbreviation of “forzando”, an Italian word for “forcing.” “Dolce” appears in bar 1 and 75, meaning to play it sweetly. It is a simple and joyful piece to play.
