Now lockdown is easing and we can move around again there was only one place I wanted to be. I've missed being be the sea so much as it nourishes my soul.
Until parkrun returns then Saturday is (not)parkrun day. I couldn't think of anywhere better to run this week than by the sea. Saltburn was the perfect location and has made me want to prioritise my parkrun tourist trips to beach parkruns! Woolacombe Dunes parkrun... I'm coming to get you! I can't wait to meet the Dune of Doom! I honestly think I'll love it!
It wasn't warm, but dry and sunny will do for me. Saltburn-by-the-Sea in Redcar and Cleveland has such a lovely beach that stretches out for miles. Gorgeous sand and beautiful dunes. If you head out past the beach huts and away from the crowds you can find peace and tranquility, and it can be just you, the sand and the sea.
Running on sand 7 days after running my 48 mile ultra marathon was tough and I paid for it for a few days afterwards! My calves were so tight! It was well worth it for the awesome feeling of freedom that beach running gives you. Running barefoot is just wonderful, especially when you get to feel the sand between your toes and splash in the sea!
This run reminded me to make sure I'm always having as much fun as I can. Remember to never grow up and always be a child. Something about the beach makes you want to run, and jump, and collect shells, and look for pretty stones, and just gives you that carefree feeling of being a child. I find it magical.
I made sure I stuck to our family rule of not leaving the beach without collecting at least 3 pieces of rubbish. Litter picking on the beach is so important and something I really care about, and to be fair I was impressed. Saltburn-by-the-Sea was virtually litter-free!
