We love trucks at KBB and the Ram 1500 is way high up on our list of loves. This one just keeps getting better and better.
So obviously the BIG 1500 news is the 702-hp TRX, which Micah did a full and exceedingly fun review in. Check it out.
But we’ve got a couple of other upgrades to mention on the non-dinosaur version. That makes it sound like it’s old!!
Mostly the 1500 gets some cool tech changes the first is a full-color head-up display, which is a first for an FCA vehicle. Oh, I mean Stellantis. Their corporate name got an upgrade, too.
With the head-up display, you get turn-by-turn navigation, speed, speed limit if you’re going over that, and lane-keeping assist.
Keeping in the tech theme there’s also a new 9.2-inch digital rear-view mirror.
Oh, how do I feel about these? On one hand, they’re pretty amazing. The image is sharp and clear, but does anyone else get a weird feeling that they’re watching a movie of what’s back there and still look? I guess I find something oddly comforting about looking at headrests.
There’s a new trailer reverse steering control that’s part of the Trailer Package that allows the driver to use a one-dial control to back up.
The 1500 gets to play in the snow now, too, because it gets a snowplow prep option.
That adds a more robust 220-amp alternator and a rear power sliding mirror with a defroster.
Of all the trucks in this segment, the Ram 1500 is my favorite when it comes to driving. It’s big but drives smaller than it is. And the suspension is tuned perfectly for when you have no payload. Ram really has this dialed in.
Safety always comes first with trucks and the 1500 now gets pedestrian detection with the Advanced Safety Group. Full-speed frontal collision warning comes standard on the Laramie trims and above. You can still get it on the Tradesman and Big Horn as part of the Level 1 Equipment Group.
Everything else pretty much remains the same, which leads us to use the cliché, if it ain’t broke, don’t change it.
The Ram 1500 rides great, has excellent power options, and the best interior in the class in my opinion. Oh, and they’ve got a truck called a T-Rex. That’s a mic drop right there.
