Judge Dee, or Di Renjie, is a household name in China as a famous judge from the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907). But it is rarely known in China that the judge was revived by a Dutch author. Robert van Gulik altered the evil portrayal of the Chinese in the western story of Fu Manchu and is still enjoying popularity today, according to his granddaughter Marie-Anne Souloumiac. #bridgebuilders
