Justice J.S. Verma was an eminent jurist and legal luminary in India. He served as the 27th Chief Justice of India from March to January 1998. Known for his profound knowledge of constitutional law and human rights, Justice Verma was deeply committed to upholding justice and fairness in the legal system.
In 2012, Justice Verma chaired the Justice J.S. Verma Committee, a three-member committee formed by the Indian government in response to the brutal gang-rape and murder of a young woman in Delhi. The committee was tasked with reviewing and suggesting amendments to the criminal law to ensure the safety and security of women in the country.
Throughout his career, Justice Verma was respected for his integrity, compassion, and dedication to promoting human rights. His contributions to the field of law and justice continue to inspire generations of legal professionals and advocates. He passed away in April 2013, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that remains influential in the Indian legal landscape.
Rajiv Mehrotra has been a pioneering Television anchor & reporter in India. Over several decades from the early1970s into the 2000’s, he was host to various programmes on India’s public service television channel – Doordarshan. This included a series of in-depth Conversations in many avatars that featured the best Indian minds and several global personalities. It was the most watched programme of its genre. His documentary films won more than three hundred global awards, including thirty-three since 1986 from five Indian Presidents. His books have been published globally in 50+ languages and editions. He was elected a Judge of the Templeton Prize for Scientific & Spiritual Curiosity and a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum at Davos. Rajiv was educated at the Universities of Delhi, Oxford & Columbia.
Today Rajiv serves as the Secretary & Trustee of the Foundation for Universal Responsibility of HH The Dalai Lama, established with the Nobel Peace Prize. He has been a student of His Holiness for more than forty years.
