It's has been over a year since i last saw LNER Peppercorn A1 60163 'Tornado' on the Severn Valley Railway in October 2015, but the engine would make a number of trips in the north this Spring before heading back south for her duties with the Belmond British Pullman.
The first of these journeys was 'The North Briton', which traversed the Settle and Carlisle line (which 'Tornado' operated timetabled service trains over in February). The subject of this video was 'The Heart Of Midlothian', which would see the 21st Century A1 run up to Edinburgh from Newcastle, before returning south as far as York.
60163 is seen on her passenger stop at Darlington on the return leg. The arrival and departure was slightly late due to a 45 minute down arrival in Edinburgh on the northbound run. Soon, 'Tornado' blows a ghostly chime whistle and releases a huge cloud of steam (causing the camera to blur) before romping away towards York.
I hope you all enjoy the video. Stay tuned for my footage of 60163 on 'The Talisman' very shortly. Feel free to comment and subscribe!
