Robber flies are also known as assassin flies because they predate other arthropods. They may also be known as bee wolves because they even eat bees! But they're not all bad, robber flies also eat "pest" insects so they can be helpful, too. Robber flies do not drink blood, like a mosquito, so they don't actively seek out humans to bite. However, if messed with, a robber fly can deliver a painful bite to a human being. There are thousands of these flies living around the world today.
