4. SOUNDBITE (Hebrew) Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister:
“The first terrorist attack was more than 160 years ago, and many came after it with a hope and expectation that they would overcome us and uproot us from here. And if they could, those murderers then and today, they would murder us all. But they will not overcome us; we overcame them. We have established an exemplary state with an exemplary army and security services, at a heart-rending price."

STORYLINE:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that a car ramming attack near a popular Jerusalem market that wounded five people was "another attempt to murder Israeli citizens."
The driver of the car was shot and killed, Israeli police said, as the country prepared to memorialise its fallen soldiers.
"This terrorist attack, in this place, at this time, reminds us that the land of Israel and the State of Israel are acquired through many tribulations," Netanyahu said, speaking at a ceremony in Jerusalem to open Memorial Day events.
"The first terrorist attack was more than 160 years ago, and many came after it with a hope and expectation that they will overcome us and will uproot us from here, and if they could, those murderers then and today, they would murder us all. But they will not overcome us; we overcame them. We have established an exemplary state with an exemplary army and security services, at a heart-rending price," he went on to say.
Police said in a statement that the attack took place near the bustling, open-air Mahane Yehuda market.
A 70-year-old man was in serious condition, police said.
It was the latest bloodshed in a yearlong wave of near-daily violence that has gripped the region.
