• How do I know if my baby is getting enough milk? (subscribe for more tips and tricks)
Watch the hands.
When your baby is hungry, notice that her fists are tight. She’s saying: feed me! She’s ready to come to the “dinner table”.
After you latch your baby and hear those swallows (sounds like a “kah”) you’ll notice her hand starts to relax and open up.
This is what we like to call: Milk Drunk.
That’s one sign. Here are some other things to watch for:
Again, satisfied and relaxed at the breast aka “milk drunk”
Breasts feel softer or drained after a feeding
Hear swallows while feeding
Enough wet and poopy diapers
Meeting developmental milestones
Following their growth curve
Times of alert and active throughout the day
If you are not sure if your baby is getting enough milk, I highly recommend working with an IBCLC Lactation Consultant.
