Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin apologized for the way he handled his prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment, which led to confusion following a secret hospital stay that was kept from top U.S. officials, including the president.
Austin was hospitalized on Jan. 1 due to complications from a late-December surgery to treat the cancer.
“We did not handle this right. I did not handle this right,” Austin told reporters at the Pentagon on Thursday.
