ABOUT THIS CONCERT
The November 2015 performance by this remarkable trio of pianist Geri Allen, bassist Esperanza Spalding and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington is easily one of the landmark moments to occur on the Miner Auditorium stage, and it marked Allen’s last appearance at the SFJAZZ Center before her passing in 2017.
Allen earned her exalted place among jazz’s most influential artists as a visionary pianist and composer, while Spalding was already jazz’s brightest young star before winning a Best New Artist GRAMMY in 2011. A virtuoso drummer and 2021 NEA Jazz Master, Carrington has built a momentous career as a bandleader and composer.
“A group uninterested in resting on its laurels” (Village Voice), this collaboration emerged out of Carrington’s GRAMMY-winning 2011 Concord album The Mosaic Project, bringing telepathic interplay, masterful technique, and an adventurous spirit.
