Alsancak is a neighborhood of Konak district of Izmir. It is known for Alsancak Train Station, St. John's Evangelical Anglican Church, Santissimo Rosario Church, Kordon, Gündoğdu Square and Kıbrıs Şehitleri Caddesi.
The neighborhood that forms the northern end of Kordon protrudes into the Izmir Bay in the form of a nose. For this reason, the region was known as Punta before the Republic. This name was changed to Alsancak in 1925.

Republic Square
It is one of the three most important squares of the city, together with Konak Square and Gündoğdu Square, which form the starting point of Kordon. You can think of this square as Izmir's Taksim square. Protests and rallies are also held here. In the square, Atatürk said, "Armies, your first target is the Mediterranean, forward!" There is a monument symbolizing the command.
Passport Ferry Terminal
Passport Pier, which was built between 1867 and 1886 during the port arrangement made by the French within the scope of city planning policies, is also one of the oldest customs structures in İzmir. Nowadays, it is one of the meeting points in the city, just like the clock tower. Of course, if you want to go to Karşıyaka, Bostanlı, Göztepe, Bayraklı and Alsancak Ports by sea from the bay, ferries depart from here.
Arkas Art Center
The sea-facing part of the building, which has been used as the French Honorary Consulate building since 1875, was rented by Arkas Holding and opened under the name Arkas Art Center in 2011. When you come here, you can visit the works and paintings brought by Lucien and Bernart Arkas to exhibit their own collections from different museums of the world, accompanied by guides, free of charge.
In a room arranged by Lucien Arkas, a true Napoleon lover, to host his guests, there are Napoleon's original belongings and Napoleon's paintings. This room, which has been opened to visitors in some exhibitions, is also worth seeing. The museum is closed on Mondays. Open Tuesday-Sunday 10.00-18.00 Thursday 10.00-20.00. Entry is free.
Kultur park
Kültürpark is the first real fair and recreation area of İzmir, famous for its İzmir International Fair. In addition to the huge park, where people come to walk and sit, there is an amusement park, sports fields, theatres, culture, arts and entertainment venues and even a marriage office in the huge green area opened in 1936.
Cultural and art institutions such as İzmir History and Art Museum, Atatürk Open Air Theatre, Youth Theater, İsmet İnönü Art Center, İzmir Art, Painting and Sculpture Museum Art Gallery are located here. The wide green area of the park is also the place where concerts take place, including the fair period.
Alsancak Train Station
Alsancak Station, which is the starting point of the first railway line in Anatolia, started to serve in 1858. The interior of the building, which has late period Ottoman architectural features, is quite high, and the window openings are decorated with vitrals.
Izmir TCDD Museum
The TCDD Museum is located in the building directly opposite the Alsancak Train Station. The building, which was used as a commodity warehouse by British merchants in the early 1800s, is now a living museum that sheds light on the history of Alsancak Station, which is the starting point of the first railway line in Anatolia, and İzmir railways.
