The Ecstasy of St. Teresa (de Avila) by Gian Lorenzo Bernini is iconic for its beauty and realistic capture of the human form but also its erotic undertones. The message of the work is meant to be one of divine love and communion with God as seen by a devout member of the catholic church, but the artist has infused a more sensual message of love in his work. Was he so wrong though?
