New South Wales Police has admitted officers incorrectly allowed two overseas travellers to skip hotel quarantine in the state.
It comes after two German travellers skipped past hotel quarantine and entered Victoria after arriving at Sydney Airport.
The two travelers passed through Sydney Airport’s international terminal without being escorted to the mandatory 14-day hotel quarantine.
They then moved through to the domestic terminal and boarded a flight to Melbourne.
A statement was released by New South Wales Police on Sunday claiming ownership of the mistake.
The issued statement noted: "The New South Wales Police Force has since conducted a review in the circumstances of the incident and identified police had incorrectly allowed the two travellers to proceed to Melbourne.
"Police practices and systems at the airport have also been reviewed and strengthened as a result of this incident".
The German pair have tested negative to coronavirus and will be again tested tomorrow.
