We've got Target bringing us a whole new countdown moment, all the revellers are going to be practicing counting down now this year, again to a wonderful Target inspiration. TIMES SQUARE GETS READY FOR 2007
New York City's Times Square is gearing-up for its biggest night of the year. A giant seven-foot tall number "7" that completes the Times Square "2-0-0-7" sign, arrived on Wednesday morning (December 13) atop a truck.
The "2-0-0-7" sign is a main attraction for the city's New Year's festivities. It will be hoisted into the air, sitting at the base of the pole where the ball drops. At midnight the sign will light up at the same time the ball drops.
The numbers weigh 350 pound (159 kilograms) each and the number "7" alone is comprised of 115 lightbulbs.
The Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment have been hosting the event of lighting the numbers for the past seven years.
But revellers have been celebrating New Year in Times Square since 1904.
In 1907, the New Year's Eve ball made its maiden descent from atop the flagpole. It has been lowered every year since, with the exception of 1942 and 1943.
