If you've been researching diamonds, you've probably learned the difference between a brilliant cut diamond and a step cut diamond.
Brilliant cut diamonds are cut in a way that creates many facets, intended to maximize the sparkle of a diamond. This is the most common cut we see for traditional round diamonds.
The step cut, on the other hand, is faceted with a number of straight lines, gradually decreasing in length. This type of cut is know for creating a "hall of mirrors" effect.
The most well known step cut is the emerald cut- an elongated, rectangular diamond cut that was originally used to cut... you guessed it... emeralds.
But there's another option in the "step cut" family that we love, and that's the asscher.
Asscher cuts share the same faceting style as emerald cuts, but are shaped as a square, with the edges of the diamond's pavilion meeting in a point.
Which of these styles do you prefer? Let us know in the comments!
