Set 1500 years in the distant past, Vortigern (Jude Law) betrays his brother, King Uther (Eric Bana), causing the balance between humans and wizards, which has been maintained for centuries, to be shattered. Luckily, King Uther's only descendant escaped, which prevented his bloodline from being severed.
Fifteen years pass, and the tiny baby, named Arthur (Charlie Hunnam), grows up at the bottom of the social ladder with no knowledge of his origins. After killing his brother, Vortigern takes over the reins of power and rules with an iron fist, leaving the people in a terrible state. By chance, Arthur pulls out a sword that has been plunged deep into a boulder, and which, according to legend, can only be lifted by someone of royal blood. The news soon reaches Vortigern and Arthur is arrested.
