The UNESCO World Heritage Committee meets in July this year in Istanbul where the ‘Gibraltar Neanderthal Caves’ nomination is expected to be discussed. Referring to Gorham’s cave and Vanguard’s Cave, which are based near Europa point, both are filled with archeological treasures, such as a Neanderthal tool that was recently uncovered.

Professor Clive Finlayson, who is leading the UNESCO bid, spoke to Katy Docker about the history of the caves and what his hopes are for the area going forwards.
