This unit was raised in 1938 after the Belgian cavalry lost its horses due to the motorisation, it was named the "Royal Escort" and consists of 132 men to guard and escort the king during parades or important events. The uniform that they wear is that of the Belgian Gendarmarie of 1914. All of them are federal policemen. I filmed them around 09:37 so no doubt they were on their way to the Cathedral Saint-Michael and Saint-Goedele in Brussels, where the Belgian king would attend the Te Deum at 10:00. They would also open the military parade in Brussels later that day.
