Welcome to the official J Morris the Review Guy album review for the ninth studio length album by American alternative metal band Deftones, entitled Ohms!
Album genre type: Alternative metal, experimental rock, art rock, dream pop.
Deftones returns in 2020 with a record that proves their staying power, musical efficiency and overall proficiency at stringing together catchy alt-metal bangers.
That being said, Ohms is undermined by a faulty mix that does not do many sections as much justice as they could've had. While the band is still at the top of their game on Ohms, much in the vein of Koi No Yokan and Gore--although both are significantly better, in my personal opinion--, several glaring mistakes on the production front and rudimentary nature of the riff-writing at times and pacing issues results in, at times, a mixed bag.
Otherwise, the tightness of the band remains the same, which showcases why Deftones have lasted this long...and while they will continue to do so.
This album is available now on Reprise Records!
My favorite songs on this album are:
Genesis - Ceremony - Urantia - Error - Headless - Ohms.
My least favorite song on this album is:
Pompeji.
