The billionaire space race in on! Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk are facing off. Will Elon Musk’s SpaceX win the race or will Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin be crowned champion? Space X is winning so far, but Blue Origin might catch up. SpaceX achieved a major milestone back in May with the successful launch of the Crew Dragon spacecraft; NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley made history when the Crew Dragon Endeavour spacecraft sent the men to the International Space Station. The manned mission marked the first time a crewed orbital spaceflight was completed by a private company. Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin has not sent humans into space yet, but the company has plans to do so in the very near future. Elon Musk wants to colonize Mars and build a megacity on the surface of the red planet. SpaceX’s Starship could send humans and supplies to Mars by 2025. For this to happen, SpaceX must first perfect its Starship launch vehicle. Jeff Bezos has a very bold vision of the future. He wants Blue Origin to build infrastructure in space so that massive settlements called O’Neill colonies can house millions of people. These giant space colonies would dwarf the International Space Station and be like megacities floating in space. O’Neill colonies could be modeled after historic Earth cities, or they could even be nature preserves and space hotels.
