Normally patients say enlarged veins in the legs . The patient will say of pain and a bluish coloured discoloration. This is called as Varicose Veins. In medical terminology Varicose Veins are the abnormally dilated tortuous veins in the legs. What are veins? Veins supply impure blood from the leg towards heart. So if there is any abnormality in the valves which are present , that causes a dilatation that is enlargement if veins in the legs that is called as Varicose Veins. usually patient will be asymptomatic , the enlargement of veins is bluish in color and multiple swellings in the whole leg. So the patient will have symptom if the severity of the varicosity increase.
What are the symptoms of the patient with Varicose Veins? The patient will have a vague pain as the day progresses. They will not have any pain in the morning. After standing for long duration, there is a vague pain in both the legs , as the day progresses in the evening and the pain reduces as the patient lies down in the night. Sometimes patient may have combinations like ulcers in the leg which are not healing for a long time and changes in the skin, called as blackish discoloration, hyperpigmentation in the skin. So the patient visit a dermatologist for a hyperpigmentation of the skin, that is blackish discoloration. What are the risk factors for Varicose Veins? Varicose Veins are common in patients with long standing occupation like bus conductors, security guards, even for surgeons. So the treatment of Varicose Veins is very simple, if you diagnose early. usually we diagnose by clinical examination, the patient whether they have varicosity of long sephanous vein , shirt sephanous vein and what are the severity of Varicose Veins. We do suggest a Doppler scan for the leg, that will give proper diagnosis of Varicose Veins. Once we get diagnosis, if we treat them conservatively. We advice the patient to avoid long standing, sitting intermittently and we advise Varicose Veins stocking or either above knee or below knee Varicose Veins stockings. Most of the patient will be relieved by such measures if patient will not be relieved by conservatively management, we advise laser procedures and small open procedures. Laser procedures are day care surgeries, we do a Doppler and we identify the abnormal veins, and we do a laser procedure the patient will have cure and the recurrency is very less.
