The other military movement we had during my short stay in Gibraltar was an RAF A400M Atlas C.1 transport aircraft.
Based at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, the Atlas complements the Hercules and Globemaster fleets in its role of providing tactical airflift and strategic oversize lift capabilities. It is capable of of carrying a 37-tonne payload over a range of 2,000 nautical miles and has the ability to operate from remote military or civilian airfields and short or unprepared strips.
The Atlas is one of the largest aircraft to be seen operating out of RAF Gibraltar and is seen here to perform a very short landing before taxiing back across Winston Churchill Avenue to the northern apron.
