As a student enrolled in MacEwan University from 2018 through to the end of my business degree, I'm looking back as I get closer to graduation, I thought it would be good to share my experience at the downtown Edmonton campus, as well as my experience with the Supply Chain Management major.

Buying Story
I started looking for post-secondary institutions right out of high school because I wanted to expand my skills and be more valuable in the job market. Googling Alberta universities, I found MacEwan to be the right place where I could get out of Calgary (where I’m from) and get access to the programs and opportunities I was looking for.
Looking at alternatives for post-secondary, there is a few other supply chain management degrees offered by Mount Royal and SAIT in Calgary, but knowing I wanted to venture out, I figured Edmonton would be a good choice, plus, MacEwan was the only undergraduate SCM program Edmonton. The University of Alberta didn’t really offer what I wanted.
MacEwan vs U of A. For starters, the class sizes in MacEwan are much smaller (closer to 40 people per lecture). I also liked the MacEwan student culture better. Another major factor was the accommodations MacEwan offered, the residence is newer, nicer, and you get more privacy with the apartment style dorms. MacEwan also has the cooperative education program, and the degree price is more affordable.
Tuition price was a huge consideration for me. As of 2021, the average price per term is $3,530 at MacEwan (about $29,000 for the 4 year degree). It also included the healthcare program, gym membership, pool access with steam and sauna, and lot’s of other programs and resources.
Price for living in MacEwan residence is about $750/month - $900/month depending on unit size. You also get utilities and internet included.
Key Features
The MacEwan bachelor of commerce program offers a range of educational paths, with 7 majors and 11 minors just within the school of business.
Cooperative education program is available to all BCOM students and provides the opportunity for student work placement. This was important for me as I wanted real world experience in a professional setting, while also continuing my courses throughout my degree.
Especially coming to a new city, the clubs and activities MacEwan offers are broad for anybody’s interest, and it’s easy to make friends. Student culture is fun and felt very welcoming.
Residence at MacEwan is affordable and high quality, especially for downtown Edmonton living. There is a variety of suite types, you always get your own locking room, kitchen, bathroom, and shower. If you are new, or a first-year student, I highly recommend living in MacEwan residence.
Buyer recommendations
If you are ever failing a class, take the “W” withdrawal! It may be painful to re-do a course, but it is much better for your GPA than taking an F with a 0.0 grade.
Take advantage of as many extra programs as you can. For example, the international business or business abroad lets you travel and see how business is done in other countries, plus it’s a lot of fun.
Go to class! The profs at MacEwan have lots of knowledge and experience, plus with small class sizes, you get opportunities to chat with them.
Favourite thing
The co-op program at MacEwan was awesome. Not just for getting credits while I worked, but it gave me professional work experience prior to graduation. Finding a job is easier, and I made money to help pay down my student loans. Basically, a win win scenario, so if you are considering the co-op program, it’s worth it, do it.
