The Church of England installed its first female Bishop of London on Saturday in St Paul’s Cathedral, making her the most senior woman in the church.
Sarah Mullally, a former chief nurse, will not be accepted by everybody, as many conservative evangelical and traditionalist parishes within the church cannot accept female bishops.
Clergy and members of the public on the day were glad to welcome her, hailing it as a moment they had been awaiting for a long time.
Love her or loathe her, Mullally’s appointment is bound to open a new chapter in the history of the church in the capital.
