According to the Citizenship Act of 1955, the centre has decided to offer Indian citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians who now reside in two districts of Gujarat and are from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Significantly, the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act of 2019 (CAA) was dropped in favor of the Citizenship Act of 1955. According to Rp Singh, a BJP spokesperson says, 'this is a welcome step'. People who have traveled to India from Bangladesh, Pakistan, or Afghanistan for well-known reasons should be granted citizenship so that they can choose another nation to visit. Bjp leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi claims that this serves as a warning to those who attempt to promote racial violence under the banner of CAA.
