Hello, this is April Choi and Bethany Byrnes, and this is a Fire Eating Safety and Tips Video on how to do vapor tricks with hollow torches.
Before we begin, please be careful with anything involving fire and most importantly, always have a fire safety ready with a safety towel. Also be sure to check that your props are in good condition. Always check that the wicks are solidly attached.
Remember, take in a full breath and lick your lips before bringing fire towards your face or pulling vapor into your mouth. Never take vapor into your lungs.
To pull vapor into you mouth but not your lungs pull your tongue back and down as if you were sucking on a straw.
Always wait until your torch is hot after it has entered the gas stage. If you try to pull off of a cold torch, a torch in the liquid stage, you will get liquid fuel instead of vapor.
Keep the torch angled down when drawing vapor. If you lift the wick higher than your mouth you could have liquid drip down.
Draw slow and stead to avoid having the vapor condense in your mouth.
If you are having trouble with fuel dripping out of the torch after drawing vapor you either need to wait until the fuel is hotter or you are drawing too quickly. Alternatively, you can either use the fuel as a transfer or you can put a cotton swab or a small piece of kevlar into the back of the torch to absorb the fuel.
Following all of these tips will help prevent burning yourself and also make your fire eating that much better.
