Hey I created this video to help you with your travels, there are many different routes and bus times so I will show you the most common route people take.
And that’s me, I am Kel and I am a videographer volunteer here at IPBio. Lets get you to this awesome place.
IPBio is located in the very south of the state of Sao Paulo in a town called Iporanga.
So the first step is to fly into São paulo guarulhos aiport. As the trip to the reserve is long and starts early in the morning we recommend you stay a night in São Paulo.
A good hostel to stay at is the red monkey because it is located very near the bus stop.
If you do decide to stay here you will be about a 5 minute walk to barra funda bus stop.
If you have time, go to Barra Funda and buy your ticket for the next day. This will make your life easier the next morning as the bus leaves at 7.30am.
You can also purchase your ticket online, check out the link in the description
When you arrive look for this sign Embarque (Boarding), go upstairs where you will purchase or pickup your ticket. Now look for the Bilheterias sign. If you came in on the same side as me you will walk almost all the way to the end of the hallway, till you reach these red atms (24h banco). Heres transpen the 1st bus we will be taking. You will need your passport to purchase or pick up your ticket, now lets go on board
Walk to the end of the hallway where youll see this embarque sign again. Follow the tunnel downstairs to the buses. Now look for your platform mine was 21. Here it is! Make sure your bus reads Apiai on top. Enjoy the beautiful ride. The bus ride is about 7 hours long and it does make a couple stops for food.
We made it to Apiai! From here there is only one bus to Iporanga and it leaves at 3pm. This bus only runs on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays so if you are arriving on a Tuesday or Thursday then you will need to get a taxi. There is a taxi stand located just outside the bus stop and it will cost around R$120.
On a Monday, Wed or Friday you can catch the bus that costs only R$6.20 cash and you purchase it directly with the bus driver when you get on. Tell him you are going to Reserva Betary and he will stop there for you. Its a rocky ride but sit back and enjoy these surreal views.
don’t worry the bus driver will stop at the reserve and theres Imran, the volunteer coordinator, who will be waving the bus down for you and will help you carry your bags!
Welcome to ipbio! As you get to the reserve at around 4.30pm on the first day the staff will give you a free lift into town so you can do some shopping. Then you can rest up so you can start the next day well rested for the official introduction. For more details check the volunteer package and we have put important links in the video description as there are other options for getting here which may be better for your specific case. It is the volunteers responsibility to look into the travel route that fits you best.
Enjoy your travels and see you soon!
