1. Various luxury teddy bear
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Anne Pitcher, Selfridges Head of Trading
" Well Christmas means teddy bears I think. So here we have the ultimate in teddy bears. From Steiff (who are) 125 years old. This teddy bear is really the most fabulous piece. he has diamond and sapphire studded eyes, his coat is woven with a golden thread, he comes with a fabulous elephant which is the first piece that Steiff ever made, with the diamond encrusted initials of Anita Steiff - the creator of the brand - and the pen with the gold ink. It's that with which the new owner will sign the certificate of origin. If you buy this bear, we will fly you to Germany, invite you to join us for dinner in a hotel and make the whole presentation of this very special gift an unique Christmas present."

4. Various Alexander McQueen designer handbag
5. SOUNDBITE (English) Anne Pitcher, Selfridges Head of Trading
"I think the red enamelling, the red crocodile handle, the gold embellishment, the Swarovski crystal and the McQueen logo on the front make this a snip at 21,000."
6. Shot of shoppers eye-view on Selfridges escalator
7. Various Selfridges shoppers
8. SOUNDBITE (English) Anne Pitcher, Selfridges Head of Trading
"I think people always look for value for money - that doesn't necessarily mean inexpensive. Pure value is what that means to the owner of the goods whether they are cashmere robes that allow the owner to feel very very special wearing them, whether they are products unavailable anywhere else, whether they are products or items that are created exclusively for Selfridges that are unavailable - I think this year is about truly special gifts.
9. Various of London's Oxford Street
10. SOUNDBITE (English) Majorie Speight, shopper (VOXPOP)
"I do worry about the credit crunch. I think that I am fairly lucky and I really worry about other people and I just don't know how they manage, especially, as I say, apart from presents/gifts, I just think that the cost of food has absolutely escalated out of control. I mean that's something that I think about more than sparkling teddy bears or things like that."
11. SOUNDBITE (English) Birundha Theva, shopper (VOXPOP)
"At the high end, it's just going to be the super rich and well, they don't really buy things with credit, they with cash. So I don't think they're going to be affected. To be honest with you, it's really going to be people with lower incomes."
12. Set up shot Jeremy Batstone-Carr, Charles Stanley Stockbroker's Director of Private Client Research
13. SOUNDBITE ((English) Jeremy Batstone-Carr, Charles Stanley Stockbroker's Director of Private Client Research
"Well it's early days but the expectation is that Christmas shopping's going to be under the cosh (pressure). I think the fact of the matter is is that more people are being laid off (made unemployed), people are facing higher bills, higher taxes, inevitably there is going to be less money to spend. It's been on a declining trend I have to say for quite a while. The rise of the internet means that more and more people are increasingly comfortable to shop online. So concerns that Christmas isn't happening or Christmas has been cancelled are I think more real than ever this year."
