I finally got to see Gladiator II, so thought that I would talk a bit about it. There are no spoilers in this video, so do not worry if you have not yet seen the film. Instead, I say a bit about the real characters on which the movie portrayals are based - very loosely, but I guess they are based to some extent on the real people. So we talk about the emperors Caracalla and Geta who feature in the film - and about their Septimius Severus and Julia Domna who do not. We look at M. Opellius Macrinus, played by Denzil Washington in the film, although more about the real man - the first equestrian to become emperor, albeit for less than a year.
