In this review of the Vitruvian Trainer+, we go over how this smart home gym worked for us and what we would like to see improved.

The Vitruvian Trainer+ is a really compact piece of strength equipment that utilizes space really well. It is a free-standing platform that can be used just about anywhere near a plug. I used it in my 4th-floor apartment with no access to an elevator for a few months. I’m not able to do that with much of the equipment that we get in for testing.

I recommend using the Vitruvian in at least a 6-foot by 6-foot area. I used it around a 4-5 foot space in my bedroom and then stored it under my bed. One side of the platform has 2 wheels and there’s a handle on either side so moving the Vitruvian is pretty easy. It only weighs about 80 lbs.

The construction looks and feels really nice. It has a carbon-fiber shell that makes it feel high-end. There are two cables on the top of the platform that are retractable to offer magnetic resistance. The resistance definitely feels different and actually more challenging than traditional free weights. So, the Vitruvian can take some getting used to because the weight feels different.

It lets you lift up to 440 lbs of weight which is impressive for such a small machine. The Vitruvian Trainer+ requires using the Vitruvian App that you can use with or without a subscription. The app is required to set the weight, track your reps and range of motion, and use the Trainer+.

The weight is adaptable to you and your strength level. I recommend taking the strength assessment to unlock the weight you’re capable of lifting. The app can feel a little tedious to use for creating your own workouts, but once you get the hang of it, it’s easier and the trainer-led videos are nice if you want some guidance.

I also like how Vitruvian has incorporated safety to help keep you safe while you lift heavy weights in the comfort of your own home.
